Poor progress in NT intervention

Jenny Macklin is correct in her comments. Having lived in one of the prescribed Aboriginal communities for the period of the Intervention to date, it is obvious to me that problems of alcohol and violence are now way less that they were prior to its inception.
However, the increased numbers of police, together with the decline in serious time-consuming cases and more restrictive laws about grog mean that the police have more capacity to attend to the volume of crime (particularly lower-level alcohol-related crimes such as minor DV incidents and disturbances) than they did previously. Consequently we see the paradox of increased recording of lesser crimes in circumstances where absolute levels of both serious and less serious alcohol-related crimes have actually declined.
